ALT
FOR
SOCIETY

Through countless challenges, we have not ceased to represent a diverse range of Philippine contemporary art practice and we have continued to pursue our main goals of developing art appreciation, patronage and community engagement.

These perspectives aid us in thinking like artists: always asking questions, analyzing current events, finding innovative solutions to problems, developing ideas through research, experimentation and the constant attempt to master one’s craft.

Presenting art and its accompanying literature is our intangible way of contributing to positive change and to the progress of civilization.

SOCIAL
RESPONSIBILITY

ALT Philippines operates from the non-profit organization Contemporary Art Collective. As part of our ongoing social responsibility projects, this year we will be granting 4 full-year scholarships to 20 students through the ABC Foundation. We will also be providing each of them with tablets needed for online learning.

The Philippines is the last country to return to face-to-face classes, adversely affecting an entire generation of our youth—our largest demographic. Supporting education is a solution that is long-lasting and can multiply exponentially, targeting a key problem that gives rise to an endless cycle of poverty and other social ills.
The mind and body are intrinsically connected, and along with the ravaging effects on physical health, we also see a growing mental health crisis. Art making and art viewing boost brain function, are forms of stress management, aid in processing trauma and in dealing with anxiety disorders, depression, feelings of anger and shame. Art promotes meditation and mindfulness, is an alternate visual form of expression when words do not suffice; it brings joy and hope as a testament to the enduring human spirit.

EXHIBITION
INFORMATION

A big group exhibition during this period of global turmoil comprehensively chronicles what we think and feel, know and do not know, have considered as successes as well as failures. Art enables us to better reflect, understand and respond to our current circumstances, and acts as a record for future generations to ponder on. Presenting the work of over 150 leading contemporary artists, the exhibition is a large-scale group show of ALT Philippines’ 9 collaborating art galleries—all in one space.
