Raffy Napay’s work entitled “Punla (buto at lupa)” is about how we are seedlings that grow and move over time. Being a seedling means there is new life and a new beginning. The seed symbolizes us that we are all seedlings on earth and that we live and grow as a person on earth. We grow endlessly like a seedling. Everyday everything moves, everything grows and everyone has their own way of growing.
Raffy came up with the new concept and project when he was asked to create art for special projects of ALT. A new work but still connected to Raffy’s life experiences, specifically his experience being a father. Being a father is like being seedling, there is a new beginning and it grows endlessly.
Layers of string mixed and sewn together creating a great work. Layers of string with a combination of balls that are made of thread as well. Raffy’s use of thread symbolizes the connection of our whole life and our experiences. For him it is a person’s pagkatao or being. The thread connects us to each other and shows how we grow everyday. We are different people and different opportunities are given to us but we are one place and one earth.
