Eric Bico expands the presentation of his alter ego Manikween, a persona he created in 2018, as a conduit for articulating complex emotional and psychological states. Bico inhabits Manikween through a head-to-toe white body suit that evokes inhuman skin, at once synthetic doll and mannequin-like. Over this surface, he wears forms of dress that remain difficult to claim openly outside of his protective anonymity. Manikween thus becomes a vehicle for exploring visibility, vulnerability and the limits of self-expression.
Across photographic and video works, and occasionally in live performance, Manikween frames queerness as a site for care and experimentation, engaging questions of safety, intimacy, and expression of identity within public, socially mediated environments.
