DISCOVERIES
The exhibition is part of an ongoing exploration of the relationship or conversation that occurs between the sky and what is found on the ground. The paintings are formed through the process of juxtaposing and superimposing different objects of nature with each other, as well as with structures from the urban landscape such as cracked sidewalks, walls, and rubble– creating dichotomies that utilize various painting techniques, visual texture, and colors. Throughout that process, the self is simultaneously engaging in that conversation, empathizing with all these elements as a way of finding identity and assurance of belonging no matter the location, time, or events. It implies themes of oneness and interconnectedness with everything.
What this series offers differently from the artist’s previous works is that these are attempts at being less personally concerned, but rather more conceptually abstract, while still referencing personal struggles or goals that the artist has been contemplating over. The paintings aim to connect with the audience– offering a new way of not only looking at our surroundings in the moment, but finding our identities, dreams, emotions and experiences reflected in it (or perhaps, projected onto it) as well.
This is an attempt at eternalizing the self through things that extend beyond the self.
